The place to learn how to make
Shelburne resilient
to the impacts of climate change

3 January 2024 Update: The ResilientShelburne MVP Plan was completed in late December 2023 and just uploaded here. You can follow the link or scroll down to the files section of this webpage and click on the file name ResilientShelburne_MVP_Plan_2023_Final.pdf to access the document.

Resilience is a community effort. Here are some ways you can make a ResilientShelburne:

  • Identify something in the plan that seems like a good fit with what you know or want to do and then contact the Town MVP Resilience Coordinator at shelburnemassmvp@gmail.com to share your ideas.
  • Make new connections with your neighbors. Numerous studies show that a community with strong social connections bounces back better after adverse events.
  • Welcome newcomers and visitors. Open your heart and mind to new people and ideas. Their experiences and perspectives can help solve difficult problems.
  • Stay up-to-date on our progress. Check back here, read the ResilientShelburne MVP column in the monthly community newsletter, or ask to receive updates by contacting Shelburne's MVP Resilience Coordinator at shelburnemassmvp@gmail.com

The Town of Shelburne is expected to experience more precipitation, heat waves, and increasingly frequent and intense storms due to climate change. To prepare for these hazards, the Town was awarded grant funding in March 2023 from the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (MA EEA) to complete the Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) planning process. Through this process, the Town has convened a Core Team of residents and community representatives to guide the planning efforts.

The MVP grant program provides technical and financial support for cities and towns across the Commonwealth to plan for, and mitigate the impacts from, climate change and severe weather events. By completing this project, Shelburne will be eligible for MVP Action grants to implement climate adaptation projects such as culvert improvements, land use and open space planning, energy resilience improvements, and efforts that can improve the lives of our neighbors most vulnerable to the impacts of the climate crisis.

Read the FAQs below to learn more about the MVP program, Shelburne's MVP Core Team, and how you can help. Please send any questions or comments to Shelburne's MVP Coordinator at shelburnemassmvp@gmail.com
